Protection Dogs Worldwide USAElite Family & Personal Protection Dogs Supplier

Originally a British company, Protection Dogs Worldwide has recently expanded its area of operations to North America. We have imported our dogs to numerous clients across the United States, and make frequent trips to California and Los Angeles. With so many companies offering personal protection dogs for sale, there is plenty of choice. However, when undertaking such a serious responsibility, it pays to research which options may be most suitable. We firmly believe that we offer the best protection dogs, and feel that our long list of satisfied clients and customers speaks for itself.

Our protection dogs for sale are carefully chosen while still young, and our training team frequently travels across Europe to identify the best and most trainable puppies. When selecting a future protection dog for sale, we must consider a range of factors including its sociability, stability of temperament, courage, intelligence, and trainability. As our personal protection dogs’ final destination is in a family home rather than kennels, it is imperative that they are ready to enter such an environment.

All protection dogs must be obedient and responsive to their handlers, so the foundation of our training is extensive obedience. Rather than conducting our obedience training in sterile and controlled environments, we make sure we do it in the real world. Our sessions take place around other dogs, passing traffic, and even town centres to ensure that our trained protection dogs for sale will respond to commands in all the environments they are likely to come into contact with. All of our dogs are trained to work around common distractions and remain focused on their handler and potential threats.

In a similar vein, protection training must replicated the real world. Demonstration dogs biting the same sleeve every day for a stream of visitors to a training facility are not suitable for actual protection work. Much like with our obedience programme, all protection training is oriented towards real scenarios involving houses, vehicles, and hidden sleeves to ensure that the dogs are focusing on people rather than equipment. We also conduct post-purchase training with our clients allowing them to incorporate their homes into realistic training scenarios.

Protection Dogs Worldwide is a British-based family protection dog dealership with export operations around the world. Our unique offering is high-level working protection dogs who are also able to assimilate into family environments as dual-function pets and guards. We have numerous clients in the US, and offer a diverse range of packages. We also make a number of stateside trips each year, both to bring dogs to new clients and offer aftercare and training to pre-existing ones. All of our “Elite” dogs come with extensive post-purchase aftercare, and this applies to anywhere in the world.

We understand that there is much more to the ideal family protection dog than its breed. The easy option is to buy a German Shepherd Dog puppy and assume that it will guard you and your family, but all too often this is a flawed approach which should never be followed. Do you know whether your dog comes from a show line, or working Czech German Shepherd Line? Do you know if its parents were temperamentally stable, or demonstrated anxiety issues that would make them unsuitable for protection work? Does it have a genetic disposition towards unpredictability? Buying a dog from a dealer such as ourselves will help eliminate dangerous uncertainties, and is highly recommended.

We understand that dogs must suit our clients as they are, not as we would like them to be. It is for this reason that all of our dogs must be able to adapt to and thrive in home environments. We do not sell sports dogs, and take all of our dogs through extensive training programmes to prepare them for their future homes. We tailor our training to individual clients, and can always incorporate this into pre-planned work on request.

We make a number of regular trips to the US, and are planning to visit Los Angeles again soon. FAQs

A number of breeds are commonly used for protection work including the Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Dobermann, Giant Schnauzer, and Cane Corso. We have also trained Great Danes, Boxers, and American Bulldogs, but these breeds tend to be somewhat harder to develop for protection work.
A number of breeds have been used for personal protection work. In our experience, we have found the following to be best:
  • German Shepherd Dog
  • Malinois Belgian Shepherd
  • Dobermann
  • Cane Corso
  • Giant Schnauzer
  • Rottweiler
Other breeds may be used for personal protection work, but will less often meet the standard we require than those listed above. These include Boxers, Great Danes, Cane Corsos, and Boerboels. Temperament is more important than breed though, with a dog’s individual personality being the greatest determiner of how much potential it has for personal protection work.
Guard dogs are left unattended and work without a handler’s direction. A protection dog is closely aligned to an individual handler and generally works through their commands rather than proactively. Protection dogs will also be trained to a higher level than guard dogs.
This will very much depend on your personal circumstances, but protection dogs offer higher capabilities and levels of assurance than a guard dog. As they are untrained, it is hard to predict whether or not a guard dog will actually protect as and when required whereas protection dogs’ capabilities have been tested and proven during their training.
Guard dogs work independently and without the supervision of a handler. They are typically used remotely, and left alone while they work. Much of a guard dog’s value lies in their ability to deter rather than actually defend. Guard dogs also tend not to have been specifically trained for the work they undertake. In contrast to this, a personal protection dog will have been trained and primarily work through a handler’s direction. Control is key, and this is often absent in many guard dogs.
Breed is secondary to individual attributes when considering what the best personal protection dogs are. We need dogs who are brave, intelligent, and of stable temperament. Anxious or reactive dogs may be unreliable, and in security or operational settings this can have serious safety implications. In our experience, the best personal protection dogs are those who can be relied on to behave as they have been trained, even in stressful situations.
Advanced obedience is the baseline all protection training follows from. A dog which is not obedient cannot be trusted to progress to more dynamic and potentially dangerous protection training and work. Protection-specific training includes bitework, searching areas, stand-offs, and more. Protection capabilities can be tailored to a specific customer’s needs, and we are always happy to discuss what these may be in our early consultations.
